Viggo Mortensen expatiates on “The Two Faces of January”

The two are regular sidekicks that have a lot of common background between them. And they starred in three-series films. And while Viggo is from The Big Apple, Kirsten Dunst was born in Point Pleasant.

Viggo was in The Lord of the Rings while Kirsten was in Spider Man. The two also have something else that they share. And that is that they don’t go for the tried-and-tested formulas of Hollywood sex and violence fare. No. 

They rather prefer artistic and more complex films that have some substance to them and make you think rather than leaving the theater feeling empty-headed. Viggo has done “Eastern Promises” while Dunst has tried her hand at “Melancholia”. 

And while they have appeared in “On the Road” before (which is a biopic about Jack Kerouac’s life) now they will be teaming up for “The Two Faces of January”. 

The movie is based on a novel by the same writer who penned “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and it will indeed give the audience members food for thought. It is currently being played in theaters all over the country. 

According to Viggo, he was just in a state of drift when he chanced upon the script for the movie. And he liked what he saw and decided to give it a go. Serendipity is the name of the game for this actor. 

Viggo further pointed out that although it might seem self-centered to many it was his style that he chose his artworks in the movie world based on his personal preferences. And by choosing these favorite movies of his he then went ahead and acted in them with passion and perseverance. 

Viggo and Dunst are shown as an American couple that goes sightseeing in Athens in the 60s. They chance upon a tour guide. Viggo commended Dunst as an A-one actress that was pretty and lent a certain aura to whichever movie she worked in. 

She was a very talented and true-to-life screen siren to boot. He enjoyed working with her. Viggo said that the quality of the script for this movie was that it revealed everything about the characters via their idiosyncrasies and flaws. 

By means of their foibles and weaknesses you discover that they are imperfect and human-all-too-human specimens of the race. It is a noir thriller of a movie and you see a lot of depth psychology in the characterization.
