Mark Zuckerberg hopes for a Free Facebook in China

Zuckerberg angers Chinese freedom activists

Facebook CEO has been trying hard to impress various delegates from China as he wants to open up new possibilities of taking Facebook to the Chinese population once again. His recent statement, in which he asked his colleagues to read “The Governance of China” written by China’s President Xi Jinping, has angered the Chinese freedom activists. The 500 page document, written by the Chinese President Jinping, was published in September in 9 different languages and was written to better understand the “socialism with Chinese characteristics”.

The Chinese activists seemed to have taken this with a lot of rage, particularly after Zuckerberg’s picture was published by a government-run news-website in which he was seen holding the copy of The Governance of China”. It is being said that the picture was taken during Lu Wei’s short visit at Facebook headquarters, California. Since Wei is responsible for the censorship in his country, this was seen as a small effort on Zuckerberg’s part to open up his ways into the Chinese territory.

Facebook was banned back in 2009 but Facebook CEO doesn’t seem to be putting his foot down. In October he visited the Tsinghua University in Beijing where he impressed his hosts by delivering a 30 minute Q-A session in fluent Mandarin. Hu Jia, one of the freedom fighters in China revealed that his group was quite angered by Zuckerberg’s efforts to brown-nose a government which was clearly denying rights to its citizens.
