Zuckerberg talks about adding ‘dislike’ button

Facebook CEO says the social network is trying to figure out a way to help express a broader array of emotions.

For years Facebook users have been waiting to see a dislike button on the social networking site and most of you would be excited to know that CEO Mark Zuckerberg is actually considering introducing such a button. However, the reason behind the button is not exactly what you think. On Thursday, Zuckerberg revealed that adding this button to the Facebook posts is going to give people a third option to express their emotions because simply clicking the Like button is getting too mainstream already.

However, it was made clear that this button wasn’t to express displeasure instead, the CEO had in mind all sorts of other posts in which people want to express their grief. This button could be useful for unhappy instances such as posts announcing someone’s death or a grim situation. He said “People say they don’t feel comfortable pressing ‘Like’”. Pressing the Like button is fairly easy for everyone so it would be a new experience to have another way to expressing your reactions and emotions.

The dislike button and its implications were being discussed during an hour-long, town-hall-style question-and-answer session which took place at Facebook’s headquarters. This event was more like a follow-up to an event previously held in November when references to the movie “The Social Network” were made.

Looks like Facebook has been improving the platform for expression of emotions as people had been debating since a long time about how Facebook has initially limited such options. New emoticons were added to posts as well as messages and users can now also state how they are ‘feeling’.
