Japan Maglev Train Sets New Speed Record with 374mph

The Japanese super conducting magnetic train set a new speed record with 374mph (603km/h).

Japan has the fastest train. A maglev (magnetically levitated) train operated by Central Japan Railway has set the world speed record of 374mph today during test run on an experimental track.

The super conduction maglev train held the speed above 600km/h for over 10 seconds according to the CJR announcement. It travelled 1.8km in that time.

The maglev train broke the previous world record of 590km/h just set by itself last week. Passengers have still to wait until to 2027 to experience this incredible travel speed on land.

In comparison the French high-speed train TGV has set a speed record for conventional trains back in 2007 with 357.2mph (574km/h). The TGV speed record makes the new Japanese maglev record less impressive as its just less than 20mph faster.

Wheels on trains are not outdated just yet and the trains do not look like a giant duck beak. See photo above.
