Stephen Colbert Helps Raise $800K for South Carolina Schools

Stephen Colbert funding 1000 classroom projects on DonorsChoose.org!



Comedian Stephen Colbert announced he is partnering with the Share Fair Nation and ScanSource organization for a classroom funding project. The three collaborators will together fund nearly 1000 classroom projects in South Carolina on the DonorsChoose.org, which will help 800 teachers at over 375 schools totalling the funds at $800000.

DonorsChoose.org is a non-profit organisation where teachers can request funds for projects and materials so the students can better their learning skills,

Colbert announced the news in a statement today and shared he is very excited as DonorsChoose.org has allowed him to make an impact and connect with the students and teachers directly. Damon Qualls a teacher from Alexander Elementary School in Greenville, SC joined Colbert while he was making the announcement in New York City.

According to Qualls who has 126 projects funded on DonorsChoose.org related how he is completely shocked and what the project will mean for the teachers and students in South Carolina. The momentum will undoubtedly create a positive difference in the classrooms.

After the announcement Colbert also engaged in a live chat sessions with the other teachers and the students at the Alexander Elementary School in Greenville. During the chat teachers, administrators, several local officials, and the State Superintendent of Education all expressed their appreciation to Colbert for the funding opportunity. 

Molly Spearman the State Superintendent of Education especially commended Stephen Colbert for the support and thanked him for the gracious gift given to the dedicated and hardworking teachers of South Carolina to improve quality of education of students. 

Colbert raised the funds for the DonorsChoose.org project by auctioning his desk and set piece from his show ‘The Colbert Report’ which ended in December. Later the foundations Share Fair Nation and ScanSource also followed Colbert in the venture to aid the project.
