Apple HomeKit Delayed [Update]

Apple HomeKit Delayed [Update]

Apple’s home automation protocol is not rolling out in June. It will be Fall says new report.

Apple has revealed HomeKit at the WWDC 2014 in June. It was widely expected that Apple would launch HomeKit in /4/or June. Fortune reports that Apple has delayed the HomeKit launch to August or even September.

Update: In an unusual quick response, Apple denies that HomeKit is delayed. First devices will be on the market in June.

Apple did not specify an official launch date for HomeKit. 3rd parties are though already busy building devices and software that works with HomeKit. Earlier this month GE unveiled an intelligent LED lightbulb that works with Apple HomeKit.

HomeKit will allow users to control their home devices with Siri from their iDevices. The voice control seems to be the center functionality. Apple has not been revealing many details yet about HomeKit. The next generation Apple TV might play a central role as home automation hub.

We should though hear from Apple an update on HomeKit at the WWDC 2015 taking place on June 8. HomeKit relies heavily on third party developers. Apple is not in the business of making the bulbs or Thermostats. Google actually is making Thermostats. The search giant bought Nest last year.

Apple might have pushed out the HomeKit launch because of the anticipated launch of the Apple Music streaming service. Apple Music is believed to be announced at the WWDC 2015. Apple needs all the attention on this as it is a critical product launch. Streaming music services are growing fast and Apple is not in play yet.
