The patent prohibits Apple from using its brand name and logo for launching the watch in the hub of designer watches
Apple might not get the special treatment in the hub of designer watches which it might have been expecting. According to a document in the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, a patent from 1985 forbids Apple from using its company’s name as well as the apple logo for the launch of the Apple Watch in Switzerland. This has been reported by the RTS website which includes this document which was published by the trade magazine Business Montres & Joaillerie.
The current owner of the patent, which is going to end on December 5th this year, is William Longe who is the owner of the brand Leonard which was the first one to file the patent. Reuters has requested for comments on this but Apple wasn’t so quick to respond and it also wasn’t possible for reporters to reach the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property.
The Apple Watch has enjoyed quite some prestigious reputation in most of the countries around the world and the hype has reached an all time high with only a few days remaining till the watch makes its debut. This is going to be an important launch in Apple’s portfolio as it’s going to be the first since Tim Cook became the CEO of the Cupertino giant. Pre orders for the watch are beginning on April 10th and the watch will ship on April 24th.
