Apple Watch Will Be Pricier Than The Average Smart Watch Sold In 2014

Apple

Priced at $349 (starting price), the Apple Watch is positively more expensive than the rest of the smart watches sold in 2014.

Though smart watches have been facing some hard time trying to keep the consumers interested, they are still young and fresh with zest of a new innovative device which everyone is skeptical about. Our love for smart watches has been proved yet again with the latest Pebble Time Kickstarter project which has raised a whopping $9 million within 2 days .This is big and certainly a good news for Apple who is hopping onto this smartwatch bandwagon too late apparently.

However, it would certainly be unwise of us to put Apple’s smartwatch against other offerings because what the Cupertino giant has in store for us is without a speck of a doubt much more special. And with special we certainly mean a hint of luxury. Priced at $349 (starting price), the Apple Watch is positively more expensive than the rest but we do hope it deserve the price tag to the last penny. Early movers do have a slight advantage over others entering the market but for the moment Apple is stepping in at the right moment. Now is the peak of Apple Watch hype and every soul is more than excited about the prospect of the watch coming out in a few weeks’ time.

However, Apple is going to be trading on thin ice and unfortunately surrounded by lots of low priced competitors who have been doing good as reported by smart watch groups, and independent research firm. Samsung’s gear line has taken the leading the spot having sold 1.2 million which is predominantly due to its vast offering of designs and operating systems and up next is Pebble which managed 700,000 units but still its market share remains at 7%. Lenovo surprisingly has 10% of the market share with 500,000 units moved of the Moto 360 capped with a $125 million market volume. Google’s Android Wear had been a vanguard for most of the smartwatch manufacturers yet Canalys reports that it had only managed to hit a market of 720,000 units last year. It is expected that even more firms are going to the join the smart watch game this year. Smartwatch group’s study has already revealed 89 companies from 18 different countries and the number is likely to reach 140 this year.

The Apple Watch is still expected to sail through this with analysts predicting sales of 10 to 30 million units for the first year. Wall Street Journal has also confirmed the Apple’s order for 5 million units for the launch.
