Best Buy has issued a statement earlier explaining what happened: “A concentrated spike in mobile traffic triggered issues that led us to shut down BestBuy.com in order to take proactive measures to restore full performance. Our consumers can return to BestBuy.com in the next several hours to take advantage of today’s door busters.”
BestBuy.com was fully operational again, but as of 16:30 CT the online store is down again.
This is going to hurt the bottom line. I cannot imagine that there is crazy traffic on Black Friday afternoon. Most of the best Black Friday deals are sold out already. I assume Best Buy has a software issue somewhere on their platform, maybe mobile access related.
The Best Buy “We’Re Sorry” outage page is really pretty. Someone took quite some time to prepare that graphics. Did Best Buy anticipate website problems?
While Bestbuy.com is down head over to Amazon. They seem to be always up and running.

More than 1,000 Best Buy stores in 47 states will opened at 5pm local time on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27. Nearly all stores will remain open until 1am local time on Friday. Best Buy Stores will reopen at 8am local time on Nov. 28 and close at 10pm that day. Best Buy will hand out tickets up to 2 hours before the store opening on Thanksgiving Day and tickets will be handed out up to 1 hour before the stores open on Black Friday.
