Bruce Willis will be playing the role of a captive romance novelist alongside Elizabeth Marvel in the onstage adaptation of Stephen King’s novel ‘Misery’.
Academy Award winner and two times Golden Globe winner, Bruce Willis is finally up to act on stage. Willis who has enjoyed an extensive career on screen is going to give his debut performance on Broadway in a play titled ‘Misery’. Adapted from Stephen King’s thriller of the same name, the play has been written by two-time Academy Award winner William Goldman. The play includes a novelist Paul Sheldon who is rescued from a motor accident by his Number One Fan is held captive by her.
She reads the manuscript for his new book and realizes that Sheldon has killed off her favorite fictional character Misery Chastain. Now she, Anne Wilkes, his number one fan is making him reconsider his decision to kill off Misery by putting him under a deadline at the end of which he must write a new ending for Misery. She emphasizes on the importance of the deadline by threatening the life of Sheldon constantly.
He must write how Wilkes wants it to be written or else he might loose his life. the play is all about how the drama unfolds between these two characters and what is the new end of Misery. Of course, this is not the first time Misery has been made. In 1990, Rob Reiner directed the movie for the big screen starring James Caan and Kathy Bates. Kathy Bates won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her performance as Anne Wilkes.
The play is being Warner Bros. Theater Ventures, Castle Rock Entertainment and Raymond Wu. The set design is done by David Korins, lighting design will be by David Weiner and sound designing honors went to the Tony Award winner Darron West.
Producer Mark Kaufman from Warner Bros. Theater Ventures said that the WB explores new stories and genres to be explored and Misery is one of the endeavors that the company is very hopeful for. Especially with actors like Elizabeth Marvel who is a Broadway veteran and Bruce Willis who would be making his debut but both the actors are perfect to play the characters they are playing and the producers have nothing but high hopes regarding how the play will turn out.
Having already made a worldwide debut in 2012 at Bucks County Playhouse, this year round MISERY will play a strictly limited engagement in the fall of 2015, at a Broadway house to be announced in a while. William Frears would be directing the play.
