Burger King Pays for Burger-King Wedding

Joel Burger proposed to his now fiance Ashley King last week.

When 24-year-old Joel Burger proposed to 23-year-old Ashley King last week, he didn’t realize that their wedding would get national attention for their last names. The Burger-King wedding first gained fame when they took their engagement photos posing with a sign from the local Burger King, according to The State Journal Register. Although it is traditional for the man’s woman’s name to come second when hyphenated, this pair didn’t want to do anything within the lines, or bun, as it were.

When Burger King caught wind of the couple and their coincidental last names, they were just as amused as the rest of America was, and decided to help them with their wedding. While, according to the article, the couple “would love to hand out drink coozies to their wedding guests with their names and the date on one side and the Burger King restaurant logo on the other.” However, Burger King one upped that request and decided to pay for the entire wedding:

“When we heard about the happy Burger-King couple, we felt an overwhelming urge to celebrate their upcoming marriage. On so many levels, it felt like fate. They found each other and their story found us,” said a spokesman for Burger King. “On so many levels it felt like fate; they found each other and their story found us.”
