  • FAMOUS 90’S SITCOM ‘COACH’ WILL BE RETURINING TO NBC

NBC just announced a 13 episode sequel to the beloved 90’s sitcom comedy ‘Coach’ starring Craig T. Nelson as his titular role ‘Coach’.

‘Coach’ the household 90’s sitcom is coming back on air. The series has been green lit for 13 episodes by the parent network NBC. Creator Barry Kemp will return as writer on the show and Craig T. Nelson will reprise his role as the legendary Coach. The series is not a remake but a sequel to the original series in the 90’s and will continue the original story-line.

The series will be a sort of a sequel to the original series which ran on NBC from 1989 to 1997. The comedy series will be set a whopping eighteen years into the future. Nelson will reprise his role as Coach Hayden Fox and will return to coaching as an assistant coach to his own grown up son. Nelson’s son will be the head coach of an Ivy League school team in Pennsylvania.

Although throughout the original run of the series Nelson’s character was also famous for his interactions with his college age daughter, the new series will focus on his relationship with his adopted son. The son Nelson adopted with his wife near the end of the original series will be all grown up and will follow in his father’s footsteps. In 1992 Nelson won an Emmy award for his role as Coach.

Barry Kemp and Craig T. Nelson will also be executive producer of the series. There is no news if other members of the original cast will also be reprising their roles and no new names have been announced as part of the cast. The series will be shot in the multi camera format as it was shot originally in the 90’s.

Comedy series have been struggling at major networks due to their inability to attract large audiences, therefore original favorites are being considered for reinvention. In recent years Nelson had been a part of the comedy series Parenthood but since it is about to end, the idea to reinvent Coach was unearthed.

The move to reinvent and reboot other famous series of the old days has been largely followed by all networks. Recently another 90’s sitcom ‘Boy Meets World’ was reinvented with ‘Girl Meets World’. According to Deadline, Coach will have a similar format and will bring the classical comedy to the viewers with a new twist.
