  • Comcast Xfinity Cutomers Can Now Share Their Live Streams on TV via New App

The new app released by Comcast will now allow users to share their stream so that it could be viewed on another device such as a TV.

Comcast announced its own streaming app so that they could compete with Meerkat and Periscope. The Xfinity Share app was made available on Android and iOS. This new app will let you stream video from your phone directly to someone’s phone or TV.

Both of the sender and the receiver of the stream will need to be paying for Xfinity Triple Play service. They will also need to have access to the company’s X1 set-top box software. Comcast is still having problems and they are working on rolling out X1 to as many customers as possible.

For now the Xfinity Share app in very limited. This app looks potentially dangerous when compared with the Periscope and Meerkat. Although Meerkat and Periscope appeal to a younger generation, the solution put forward by Comcast seems more practical.

It is because of Comcast that the users are now able to watch a live stream with just a few clicks from the remote. Comcast has one eye set on the future and they recently said that they are looking to add some new features to this Xfinity Share app.

You can share your stream with anyone using email and you can also broadcast up to five people at the same time. The option of video playback will also be added eventually. Users would also be able to stop, pause and rewind streams.

Some analysts believe that even with the addition of these features, Comcast won’t be able to attract a lot of people. Users will also be able to share photos and videos from their phone and then those files can be shared onto the televisions.

If Comcast are to capture a wider audience, they will need to think out of the box and will need to introduce a feature that both Periscope and Meerkat aren’t offering. You can check out the current version of the app by visiting the iTunes or the Google Play store.
