David Beckham is the ideal replacement for former FIFA president Sepp Blatter, per Mirror Online’s Stan Collymore.

David Beckham is the ideal FIFA president.

This is what Mirror Online’s Stan Collymore argues in his June 7 update:

“World football needs a new ambassador. It needs a leader, it needs a man who can inspire.

“It needs a man who can arrive in any country in the world and command respect. It needs a man who will be embraced by young and old. It needs a man who won’t be corrupted.

“It needs a man who is used to fame and won’t be left starry-eyed when the issues of the day need addressing.

“The world of football needs to be unified.

“And David Beckham ticks all of those boxes.”

Collymore argues Beckham is one of the few people who can get soccer fans to root for him at the grassroots level. He points out an example of Beckham putting up a FIFA Academy in Ghana with the locals lending him their support.

Collymore says he knows Beckham personally. He says the soccer star used to be a shy individual, somebody who is unaccustomed to the limelight.

However, that has changed.

Beckham’s football experience over the years makes him the ideal replacement for long-time FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who resigned on June 2 amidst rampant corruption accusations within the organization, per The Guardian.

Blatter’s abrupt resignation comes just four days after he was re-elected as FIFA president for a fifth straight term.

Beckham began taking on bigger, soccer-related projects when he was involved in London’s bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics. London edged Paris by just four votes, per Mirror Online.

Beckham was also involved in the 2018 FIFA World Cup bid, joining forces with Prince William and British prime minister David Cameron, per Collymore.

However, Russia won the bid to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup

Collymore points out it is rare for a football personality to “bridge that gap between royalty and politics” without being daunted by the immense pressure surrounding him.

Beckham is one of those individuals.

Some of the noteworthy people who can help Beckham as FIFA president include Luis Figo, Johan Cruyff, Ronaldo (the original) and Edgar Davids. These individuals made a great deal of money during their playing days. With their integrity, they are not susceptible to corruption, per Mirror Online.

Beckham is more than just a figure for the game of football. He has now reached the status of global ambassador inasmuch as Eusebio, Jurgen Klinsmann and Pele have, per Collymore.

On /4/27, Swiss and American collaborated in a bust operation which resulted in the arrest of several FIFA officials at the Bar au Lac hotel in Zurich.

Among those who were taken into police custody and will be exradited to the United States include Eduardo Li, Jeffrey Webb, Eugenio Figuerado, Jack Warner, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Rafael Esquivel, Jose Maria Marin and Nicolas Leoz, per The New York Times (via I4U News).

The Department of Justice also accused 14 individuals of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. FIFA was allegedly involved in corrupt media deals in exchange for an estimated $150 million in bribes.

In The New York Times update (via I4U News), Warner and two other members of the South African bid committee reportedly received $10 million in bribe money to vote for that country to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Warner also allegedly received $363,537.98 when he did a favor for a FIFA presidential candidate in 2011.
