Elon Musk teases new Tesla Product Line

Elon Musk announced on Twitter that Tesla will unveil a new major product line on April 30. It is not a new car.

Elon Musk took to Twitter to announced that Tesla Motors will unveil a new major product line on Thursday, April 30 at 8pm. He adds that it will be not a car. The Tesla stock jumped by almost 4% after the Tweet.

Update 04/22/15: Tesla Home Battery and Utility Battery Announced

So what is Tesla introducing? There are several possibilities. The most likely is a battery pack for homes. Elon Musk talked about this project last year. He said according to Forbes in an earnings call: “We are trying to figure out what would be a cool stationary (battery) pack, Musk said. “Some will be like the Model S pack: something flat, 5 inches off the wall, wall mounted, with a beautiful cover, an integrated bi-directional inverter, and plug and play.”

An efficient home battery pack could be charged via solar panels and release power on demand. 

Another possibility would be ebikes. An electric Tesla bicycle would be an easy thing to make for Tesla’s designers and engineers. The third possibility could a electric motorcycle or scooter.

Tesla is pretty good at keeping new projects secret. It is likely that we will not hear anything about the new Tesla product until the event at the end of April.
