Get Hard is Not a Hard Comedy by Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart

Get Hard: Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are Not that Hard
  • Get Hard hits the screens

The Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart comedy hit the theatres with mixed reviews and a thoroughly unconvinced yet funnily impressed audience.

Get Hard is Kevin Hart’s next hit after the Wedding Ringer and Will Ferrell brings his usually tall annoying yet funny style to yet another comedy that cracks the audience right up.

While the Get Hard posters promoted Hart braiding Ferrell’s hair, the scene doesn’t exactly happen in the movie but it actually sets an image to be kept in mind about what the movie /4/be about.

Ferrell plays a successful and rich L.A. hedge fund manager James; who gets convicted on fraud charges and gets sentenced to 10 years of high security prison at San Quentin. Scared of what his future might be in the upcoming next 10 years in prison, he hires his car washer Darnell played by Kevin Hart to prepare him for his time in jail.

Darnell plays out to what James is already expecting and prepares him to survive in prison, which includes being somebody’s ‘bitch’, making a ‘Mad Dog’ face, giving a blow job to a gay man, fight if necessary to guys stronger than him and act like a gangster by having him join his street gang who consistently mock him. During that, the two characters go through tough ordeals and come closer to each other.

Many critics have found the movie offensive with its take on the rape jokes and gay humor. While in reality, the film represents a satirical approach. Like Hart tells his wife in the movie that he is going to play out every stereotype that James has in his mind about going to prison and earn $30,000 in the process. The film is a representation of how a rich Caucasian American perceives the African American community and the concept of going to prison.

Meanwhile it also represents an African American’s view of their knowledge of how James-type people expect from them including the bizarre orange and yellow outfit that James wear to impress his street gang.

Darnell is aware of the typical mindedness of James and plays out to his worst fears and make him do things that James accept full heartedly might happen to him. The agreeableness of James to actually do all the bizarre things is actually the confirmation of Darnell’s assumptions. The gay jokes and rape euphemism has been emphasized throughout the length of the movie to emphasize how a ‘white rich boy’ actually sees prison as.

The film might be called crude or nonsensical in it’s humor. In actuality, it has been made deliberately so to emphasize the ideas of two communities about each other and the typical sociological ideas that both communities have regarding prison.

The film has accomplished to touch all these sensitive points with humor and light heartedness with the expertise of Ferrell and Hart’s amazing comedic talent. Together the stars have pulled out yet another comedy classic that is set to earn quite a lot.
