Global Warming can Extinct 1 in 6 Species

Significant extinction among species due to global warming is a real and foreseen threat in the near future. In fact, one in six species might get wiped off the face of the earth in the process.

According to a recent study, climate change specifically global warming could drive one in six species (plants as well as animals) to extinction within the upcoming decades.

With the planet becoming a hotter place, the vulnerable species would literally start croaking sooner than expected. And the process is cumulative so that as time passes, the deaths will probably  increase arithmetically and then exponentially. This study is published in the journal Science.

Researchers say that it is now up to mankind to decide where they want to go from here: chaos or community. The alternative dystopia is a scenario that is indeed very horrific to even contemplate.

Somewhere the brakes will have to be applied to rampant technology and cruel progress in the name of science. There are others who point out that the death toll /4/be even greater than the sort that is predicted. It /4/well be twice or thrice as high as the predictions currently being made. 

Since the Industrial Revolution, the pace of global warming has caused temperatures to increase by 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit. This has led to forced adaptations among many plants and animals.

Most of the flora and fauna have tended to shift miles away from their original provenances. And the direction is towards the North and South Polar regions. Were current trends of gaseous wastes being released into the atmosphere to continue over time, the heat could go up by as much as 8 degrees Fahrenheit. It would be swelteringly hot then. 

Besides life being difficult to imagine on the planet, even the hardier varieties would find it hard to survive within the man-made hell that would have been generated.

An example is the Pika, a small rodent, which has ventured higher and higher up the mountains in search of a suitable habitat as the temperatures skyrocket. Now most of its populations have virtually disappeared from their ecological niche. 

With half the species on spaceship earth facing endangered status in the times which are to come, the scene looks grim indeed. It’s clear as the light of day that climate change will send the biodiversity and ecological balance head over heels into a tailspin. What the models predict /4/become a reality one day.

So mankind had better start conserving and protecting its environment both for itself and the other species that inhabit this lonely planet.
