Google remembers Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through community service and Google also created a special doodle for this special day.

Today i.e Monday January 19th, the world celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and marking the national MLK Day of Service in America.

This holiday is very meaningful especially this year as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March. Moreover it is a time when civil rights are at the forefront of the national conversation these days.

Moreover Google has started a campaign across the country. The campaign encourages everyone to give something back to their communities and take some time to honor the great Dr. King.

Google states that this can be done by volunteering in one’s respective community. Now we will tell you about some of the projects that Googlers will be participating in and the reasons why they have made such a commitment to serve this MLK day.

Dona Bellow is a legal assistant and she is going to participate in the campaign by helping middle school students in New York with computer science and STEM activities. She explained that doing something for others and helping them in their goals is reclaiming power.

This power she said is the power to choose love or conflict and power to achieve an equitable outcome for all. Moreover the Googlers in California will be volunteering to help the Northern California Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Foundation.

The Foundation is going to host a full day of celebrations and festivities which is going to include the annual parade in San Francisco. One of the participants, the head of multicultural marketing, Eliana Murillo who is going to participate in the event stated that helping others who are in need helps in building compassion and understanding of the diversity of life experiences.

Moreover Aerica Banks the leadership coordinator says that she helps others in order to break barriers and help in the building of community. Aerica has also helped to organize volunteers in Google’s Atlanta office for the Atlanta Food Bank Kids In Need program event.

This program basically helps and provides school supplies free of charge to teachers in low-income schools. Martin Luther was all about helping others and serving others. This is what Google wants to carry on.

Another Googler from the ads team in Chicago has helped organize Google volunteers in the Windy City to help middle school students practice compassion by writing letters to children who suffer terminal illnesses.

Dr. King is one of the greatest orators in American history and leader of the famous African-American Civil Rights movement. He once said that the most important question in life is that what a person is doing for others.

Keeping this in mind Google and Googlers have made it their mission to honor the legacy of such a great personality by volunteering in community service. Moreover Google does not want to this only for this Monday but wants to carry on this mission forever.
