Hulu Pays $180 Million for Seinfeld Streaming Rights

Hulu reportedly paid a whopping $180 million for the rights to stream Seinfeld.

Seinfeld is one of the most famous TV Shows of all time. It was must watch TV throughout the 90s. It still has a lot of appeal. At least this is what Hulu thinks. According to Variety, Hulu paid Sony $180 million for the rights to offer Seinfeld on the Hulu video streaming service. 

Hulu pays about $1 million per episode in this deal. Besides Sony and Castle Rock, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David will get piece of that whopping payment.

It remains to be seen if this investment pays of for Hulu. The Hulu Plus subscription sells for $7.99 per month. Hulu is though running also some ads on the service to support the subscription income. According to the Variety report, the announcement of the Hulu Seinfeld deal will be made today.

The legendary Seinfeld Show follows four single friends including comedian Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Elaine Benes and Cosmo Kramer living everyday life in New York City. The first episode of Seinfeld aired on July 5, 1989. The show ran until /4/of 1998. The show is the brainchild of Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld. Seinfeld was produced by Castle Rock Entertainment. In syndication the series has been distributed by Sony Pictures Television since 2002.
