Interstellar had a bigger opening on Friday than Disney’s Big Hero 6, but the Weekend Box Office likely belongs to Big Hero 6.
Two new blockbuster hit the theaters this weekend with Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Disney’s Big Hero 6. The Friday Box Office results have Interstellar on top with $17m compared to $15.8million. The Variety report says that Big Hero 6 is seen to win the Weekend Box Office with an estimated $56 million. Interstellar is seen to come in at $51m.
These are stellar numbers. Compare that to the $10m Ouja made as the #1 movie at the box office last weekend.
Paramount Pictures’ Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and the legendary actor Michael Caine. In Interstellar a group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. The voyage is necessary as planet earth is not able to sustain humanity any longer. A new world must be found. Big Hero 6 is Disney’s first big animated movie after the smash hit Frozen. Get this even a year after its release Frozen merchandise is ruling the Holiday 2014 toy gift lists. Big Hero 6 is about the brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion, a robot named Baymax-Hiro, he joins forces with a team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city. Big Hero 6 was directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams. It features the voices of Scott Adsit, Ryan Potter, Daniel Henney, Jamie Chung, T.J. Miller, Genesis Rodriguez and Maya Rudolph.
