Scanadu will transform the future of smartphones

The city of Las Vegas is still reeling from last week’s annual appearance of the International Consumer Electronics Show. Consumers from all over the world had the chance to meet with company executives and engineers and get a first hand feel of the newest consumer technologies. One of those technologies that are certain to garner some huge fanfare is the Scanadu Scout and the Scanaflo meter by the company Scanadu. What these devices do is check your vital signs and gives you the results on your iPhone. The Scanaflo does urine analysis by simply taking a picture of the urine and then giving an analysis of it.

Sam De Brouwer is the owner of Scanadu and he was able to fund his company with $1.6 million that was raised on the website, Indigogo. The company has been spending the last two years trying to get FDA clearance for the Scanadu Scout but this past week in Vegas, consumers got a look and have become very interested in the product. De Brouwer says that the Scanaflo can be modified very easily to become a drug testing and analysis contraption. The simple technology of being able to scan a picture on your iPhone and test for glucose, ketones, and pH in urine is one that could be a very big boom in the smartphones and apps market and could have huge consumer and commercial appeal.

De Brouwer went on to add that Scanadu has tons and tons of back orders for the new products that his company has made and developed. The only thing that is stopping him the clearance from the Federal Drug Administration. De Brouwer did say during CES 2015 in several interviews that he hopes that the Scanadu Scout and the Scanaflo will both be approved for the market by the end of the year.
