Janice Dickinson Sues Bill Cosby for Defamation

The suit was filed after Cosby’s lawyer declared Dickinson’s sexual assault story “a lie”

Former supermodel Janice Dickinson filed a lawsuit against Bob Cosby on Wednesday for defaming her and causing her emotional distress.

In an Interview aired in November 2014, Dickinson accused Bob Cosby of sexually assaulting her in 1982. Cosby attorney Marty Singer issued a statement after the accusation was made, calling model’s story “ a lie “and contradictory to what she has written in her own autobiography and her interview which she did in 2002 with New York Observer.

Now Janice is suing Cosby for defamation, denying her rape accusation and calling her a liar.

“I’m suing Bill Cosby for justice and vindication.” Dickinson told ET’s Brooke Anderson.

Branding Dickinson a liar through the representatives turned out to be the main thing which led to the filing of the lawsuit, according to court papers submitted by Dickinson’s lawyer Lisa Bloom.

“Janice Dickinson, recently publicly disclosed that she was drugged and raped by Bill Cosby. In retaliation, Cosby, through an attorney, publicly branded her a liar and called her rape disclosure a lie with the intent and effect of revictimizing her and destroying the professional reputation she’s spend decade building.” Dickinson’s lawyer wrote in the complaint.

Since statute of limitations has expired, it has been too late to take a legal action against Cosby for sexual assault or drugging. But calling her a liar is recent incident and provides a fresh claim for defamation.

Dickinson said she has suffered emotional distress and business loses and it is right time to take some legal action against Cosby.

“It is the right time,” Dickinson told ET. “I could not let myself be silent. I want to protect all those women that haven’t come forward and show them the love and support worldwide that what happened to me will not happen to another woman.”

In recent year, more than 30 women came forward with the story similar to Janice Dickinson where they accused 77-year old comedian Bob Cosby of sexual assault. However, Cosby vehemently denied all the accusations and declared himself innocent. No charges were also filed against him as the specified time to charge with a crime passed as well.
