John Travolta shows his Private Airport and Airplanes

John Travolta’s home in Florida has a functional airport with two runways for his private planes. The reason behind this strange fact or “quirk of culture” is that John is not just an actor but a certified pilot. 

He is the owner of about half a dozen aircrafts. And though he is currently 60 years old, he hasn’t lost that good old “Grease” passion. Travolta’s planes make landings right at the doorway of his residence.

“Some of us are lucky enough to have a driveway leading up to our houses, but this particular gentleman, one of the biggest stars on the planet, has not one, but two runways up to his house,” said his friend Richard Wilkins. 

Sporting a beard (which is a contrast to his “Saturday Night Fever” days) the actor said yesterday during an interview on Australia’s “Today” that he had practically designed his home to accommodate his favorite hobby of aeronautics. 

Now the actor has instant access to any other place on earth. Since the past decade or so, he has been able to make trips for business and pleasure. And he is a brand ambassador for Qantas Airlines which is Australia’s national airways. 

“We designed the house for the jets and to have at our access the world at a moment’s notice, and we succeeded at that,” Travolta said. “For the last 11 years, we’ve been able to globe-trot for Qantas and movies … I’ve been really able to operate out of this house for business and personal reasons.”

John Travolta not only has a Qantas Jet but a Challenger Jet to boot and both can be seen perched close to his premises. Travolta said that he preferred to fly the sky on his planes when he was not before the movie cameras. 

“Now I’ve made a profession out of flying in addition to acting, and at my age I’m glad I did, because it’s something to do when you’re not working,” Travolta said.

It was an alibi and a secondary interest that came in handy when he took a break from acting. Travolta even had the guts to fly over to TIFF to screen his film The Forger. 

Travolta’s wife, Kelly Preston and he, himself, gave an interview to Architectural Digest in which they explained the functional benefits of their avionics-inspired home. 

“It was always John’s dream to have planes in his front yard — to practically be able to pull up to the house — so that when you wanted to go to dinner, all you’d have to do was step out the door, get on the plane and whisk off,” Kelly told the magazine.

Travolta added, “You can be the ultimate eccentric, like I am, and bring in a 707, but you can also bring in any corporate jet or airliner.”

The Florida residence is a very expensive and expansive place indeed. John Travolta is one of the most successful movie actors of all time. And so he can afford to have private jets parked at his residence. 

And Travolta has had a passion for aircraft ever since he was a five year old kid. He has said that it is something which is a part of his very nature.
