Karrueche Tran feels Contrite over making Fun of Blue Ivy’s Hair

Karrueche Tran came under the spotlight when she joked in a casual manner about Blue Ivy’s uncombed hair. Many tweets blaming her for her rude comments made her change her mind and she rescinded. 

A day after the MTV VMAs, Karrueche did a skit on BET’s 106 & Park on August 25that imitated the top 6 things 2-year-old Blue Ivy did at the VMAs. The skit was called “Top Six Things Blue Ivy Thought At The VMAs.”  

Among the jocular stuff that got said was that her parents never combed her hair at all. Karrueche said, “I really did wake up like this, because my parents never comb my hair.” 

Right after that comment, the model giggled and said, “Sorry, Blue! I love you!” She did say that she was sorry but it was too late.

Later on she took to Twitter and apologized for a second time all the while saying that she didn’t make the script in the first place.

But by now she was infamous for her act and so a day later her reps gave a statement as to her actions and speech. They said that she had no intentions of denigrating Blue Ivy or her parents (Beyonce and Jay Z). 

Karrueche admits that she is in fact a big fan of both Beyonce and her little daughter Blue Ivy. She is not against any wild hairstyles. 

On August 26, Karrueche’s publicist released the following statement: 

“Yesterday, Karrueche Tran co-hosted 106 & Park and while hosting the show, she made a comment about Blue Ivy’s hair during the segment “Top Six Things Blue Ivy Thought at the VMAs”. In no way did Karrueche mean to offend Blue Ivy or her parents, Beyonce and Jay Z.”

This was Karrueche’s first time hosting on live television. Although she had been rehearsing the script for days, there was a script change ten minutes before showtime to add coverage of the VMAs and the Mike Brown Memorial. Karrueche had not reviewed the revised script until she read it on the teleprompter.”

Karrueche is taking full responsibility for the comment but wants it clear that she would not mock a child, “I am a huge Beyonce fan and I love Blue Ivy. I apologize for the comment and wish I had a chance to review the revised script so that I could have avoided participating in that segment.”

Karrueche admires girls and women who wear natural hair, “I love that Blue is able to wear her natural hair. I laugh when I am nervous and when I registered what I had just said, I of course was taken aback.”   

The President of BET, Stephen Hill, said in very stern words that action will be taken against those who perpetrated the words whether it is scriptwriters or any other wisecracks. 

He also offered his deepest apologies to the parents of Blue Ivy. Many times the wrong thing occurs at the wrong moment. The result is that there is chaos. 

A similar misunderstanding occurred in case of Blue Ivy’s hair. Many children have mussed up or tangled hair. That does not make them the target of jokes. 

“Last night on 106 & Park there was a stupid, unthoughtful joke made about a young child. We apologize publically to the child’s parents (and have done so privately) and we have taken punitive actions with those responsible,” said Stephen Hill.

“It was very bad judgment and we will serve you much better in the future. Oh, and please don’t hate on Karrueche; it was NOT her fault. We also apologize to her for putting her in that position.”

Of course, Tran should have been more circumspect and careful before mouthing out those ill words. Yet she too has an alibi in the form of the script which clearly asked her to utter those exact lines. 

And she confesses that she herself was quite surprised by the shocking words only after she had said them and by then it was too late.
