Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 debuts

LaCie has rolled out a new external storage solution at CES 2014 that it claims is the world’s fastest portable storage solution. The storage device is called the Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 and it promises data transfer speeds of up to 1375MB/s. That is several times faster than the fastest USB 3.0 storage device on the market.

The device has a pair of 500GB PCIe Gen 2 SSDs in RAID 0 creating a blend of performance and workflow. The drive uses a thermoregulated fan for nearly silent operation. LaCie includes the Thunderbolt cable needed to connect the drive in the box.

LaCie says that the drive can capture 250Gb of 4K video in the field and then transfer that video to post production in under 10 minutes. It’s unclear what the drive will cost, it will be available in Q1 2014.
