Apple SIM is limited to the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 for the time being
LTE capable iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 have proprietary SIM card
Apple recently announced its iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 with LTE connectivity and the good news is that these two latest offerings by Apple are going to come with proprietary SIM card solution. This is being dubbed as Apple SIM and the setup is in place to so as to allow the users of the tablets to easily switch between carriers without worrying about changing the chip inside their slate.
However this feature is only going to be available with selective carriers in the US and UK for the moment and so far we cannot comment on whether not this is going to spread to other parts of the world. The Apple SIM, as it has been called, is going to be removable so carriers have been given the option to go for a conventional setup if they want to. The confusing part is that during the announcement today Apple made no such comments on this innovative solution.
The Apple SIM for the time being is only limited to the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 but in a few years’ time this latest innovation can have massive implications to the smartphone industry down the line.
