Melissa Rivers responds to Joan Rivers Oscar Snub

Joan’s daughter, Melissa Rivers’s response to her mother Joan’s name’s absence from the Academy Awards “In Memoriam” tribute is mixed.

Joan Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, has said that although it would have been an honor to have had her mother’s name way up their among the Memoriam tributes at the Oscars, she chose to concentrate on the adoration and love received for her mother from other corners of the world. 

The thing was that although many stars and starlets who died got mentioned, Joan Rivers was not among them. This was an outrage of sorts. Joan passed away from surgical complications in September of 2014. And although she was a regular entry in the red carpet proceedings, her name was left out. 

The reason behind this omission was probably the fact that Joan was mainly a television star and comedian. She didn’t have much to do with films and the Oscars were about movies. However, even though her name was not included in the actual ceremony, it was mentioned on Oscar.com. 

Although her daughter Melissa was not very happy over this exclusion policy, she stated in a Facebook post that she was focused on the fact that her mom had so many fans and friends in the world. 

Melissa did say that her mom deserved better than a solitary mention on a website by the Oscar execs. Nevertheless she said that she was not going to make such a fuss over it. One thing which the Oscar execs forgot was Joan’s decisive role in the red carpet events and her status as Dot Matrix in Spaceballs. 

Joan did have a lot of media presence and as the main woman of her very own talk show, she was quite a flamboyant and vivacious personality. However, many of Joan’s fans and admirers were not as forgiving as her daughter regarding this cold shoulder shown by the Academy Awards execs. 

They poured forth their anger and grief on Facebook regarding the snub that was hurled in the direction of Joan. Joan Rivers was renowned for her honesty and straightforwardness. She definitely called a spade a spade. A few months before her death she got involved in a controversy when she made some offhand remarks about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 

Joan was not a person known to mince words. She was blunt and downright in-your-face in her delivery. And she was known for the words “talking” which she frequently used in her one liners. Despite not being included in the Oscars Memoriam, she will always live on in the hearts of her passionate followers spread throughout the world.
