Exciting times at Microsoft. The company is holding a press event next week in San Francisco. There are also rumors that the long-awaited Office for iPad will be making its debut at the said event.

Microsoft, under the leadership of its newly-appointed CEO Satya Nadella, will kick off its annual Build conference in April. But it seems that the likeable CEO is planning to hold a press event next week, March 27th, to possibly outline his vision for the company.

Microsoft has just sent out invitations for the said event which will be held in San Francisco. It will be his first press event. In an interview last month at Microsoft, Nadella talked about his “mobile and cloud first” strategy.

“Going forward, it’s a mobile and cloud first world. Everything is becoming digital and software-driven. We need to be able to pick the unique contribution that we want to bring,” Nadella said.

Furthermore, Tom Warren of The Verge said that next week’s event will also highlight the introduction of the long-awaited Office for iPad. Warren cited insider sources who are familiar with Microsoft’s plans.

ZDNet’s very own Mary Jo Foley is also backing up the story. Quoting several sources, Foley said that the March 27 event could be the ideal time and place for the announcement. Foley added that Office for the iPad will include only the following applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

Microsoft recently announced Office 365 Personal, a low-cost subscription option. The company also launched OneNote for Mac earlier today. And it’s surprisingly free.
