MWC 2015 Preview

MWC

The Mobile World Congress is the most prominent event in the Mobile Industry. The Mobile World Congress is the World’s largest event for the smartphone manufacturers to exhibit their mobile devices, and to announce what they will have to offer throughout the year. The MWC is an event that provides a platform to the exhibitors to showcase their devices.  Every year, around 70,000-80,000 people from 200 countries attend this event. This event is held every year in the second half of February at Barcelona, in Spain. The event is organized by GSMA.

The MWC 2014 proved to be the gateway for many significant releases in 2014. Let’s take a look at the highlights from MWC 2014:

  • 64-Bit chips for mobile devices were offered from Intel, MediaTek, and Qualcomm for the first time.
  • The first demonstration of a working Li-Fi system was made by PureLiFi.
  • HTC released their Desire 816 and Desire 610.
  • Samsung introduced their Galaxy S5, at the Unpacked event, and also debuted Gear 2 Smartwatch and Gear Fit wristband.
  • Sony announced their Xperia M2.
  • LG released their G Pro 2, G3 Mini and L-III.
  • And many new technologies were introduced for the first time.

Like every year, Mobile World Congress is all-set to host the tremendous exhibition for the smartphones, tablets, gadgets and pretty much everything that is wireless. This year’s MWC will be held from 2nd March to 5th March. The MWC 2015 will host an exhibition of around 1,900+ exhibitors from around the world to showcase their technologies and gadgets.

Many smartphone manufacturers will be revealing their big guns for the year of 2015 at this event. However, the big boys of the smartphone industry, Samsung and HTC, will be hosting a separate event at Barcelona, just one day before the MWC 2015 begins.

Let’s take a look at the gadgets and smartphones, which will be offered to the consumers, by manufacturers for the year of 2015 at the MWC event.

Samsung

While, everyone will be releasing their gadgets at the MWC event, Samsung has decided to host an Unpacked event on 1st of March, Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in Barcelona, to unveil their new flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S6, along with its curved screen variant, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, similar to the Galaxy Note Edge released last year. These smartphones will be released exactly one year after their previous flagship smartphone, the galaxy S5.

The devices are reported to sport a premium metal design, similar to that in Galaxy Alpha and Note 4. The devices are also expected to have very decent specifications, featuring an octa-core processor, a camera of 20MP, and 3GB of Ram.

Although, Samsung has hosted a separate event for launching its flagship smartphones, nobody knows what the Korean manufacturer might have up its sleeve at the MWC 2015 event.

 

 

HTC

This time, the Vietnamese Smartphone Industry, HTC, is also following Samsung’s strategy to unveil its flagship smartphone at a separate event. HTC will hold its special launch event n oSunday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m. in Barcelona.

HTC will be unveiling its latest flagship smartphone, The HTC ONE M9, in an event hosted on the 1st of March, one day before the MWC event begins. The design of this device will be very identical to the previous in the series, HTC One M8 and HTC One M7. HTC ONE M9 will be having a brushed aluminum body, which gives an exceptional premium feel when holding the device and boom sound speakers on the front panel. The device will be featuring a 20MP back camera and 4MP front camera with HTC’s ultrapixel technology.

 

 

After unveiling its flagship smartphone, HTC is rumored to release a wearable gadget on the MWC 2015. It is still not clear if it will be a smartwatch or a fitness wearable gadget. This mystery will be solved at the MWC event.

Sony

Sony is also one of the big players in the smartphone industry. But, this year, the company will not be hosting a press conference for announcing their latest devices. Instead, they will be showcasing their new Xperia Z4 tablet and the Xperia M4 Aqua at their showstand. The Xperia Z4 tablet will most likely be a 10-inch tablet with a 2K full HD display, a lightning-fast processor and a unique design that Sony offers.

The Xperia M4 Aqua is not yet confirmed to be released on MWC 2015. However, it will most likely be a waterproof device with decent specs.

LG

LG released its latest flagship smartphone, LG G3, in the midst of 2014, and are looking forward to release their next flagship in the midst of 2015.

However, LG will be releasing two smartwatches at the MWC event, LG Urbane and LG Urbane LTE. The LG Urbane will be just a regular smartwatch with Android wear installed. But the LG Urbane LTE has its own SIM card, and is based on LG’s own OS.

LG has already unveiled of a line-up of its mid-ranged phones: Magna, Spirit, Joy and Leon ahead of MWC 2015. And LG has also detailed the specs of these four devices. And we will be able to witness them at LG’s showstand in Hall 3 of Fira Gran at MWC 2015.

Microsoft

As Microsoft has taken over Nokia, we will be seeing new phones from Microsoft at MWC 2015. However, we will not be expecting any flagship smartphone from Microsoft just yet.

Microsoft /4/also be revealing plans of Windows 10, regarding its phones and tablets.

Lenovo

Lenovo will be kicking off a line-up of its smartphones this year at MWC, which include Lenovo Vibe X3, S1, S1 Pro and Max at this event.

These devices are mostly battery-centered and are guaranteed to give a great battery time.

Huawei

As Huawei has already announced that its flagship will be unveiled at an event in London, we will not be expecting anything extraordinary from Huawei at the MWC 2015. Huawei is still expected to release a mid-ranged smartphone line-up and a wearable gadget.

Acer

There are no rumors as to what Acer will be releasing at MWC this year. Still, it have teased a well-designed smartphone on its Facebook Page along with a wearable device. So, we will just have to wait and watch as to what they have to offer at MWC 2015.
