New iPad mini 3 is Over-Priced, but that’s Good

New iPad mini 3 is Over-Priced

The new iPad mini 3 is a weird update from Apple. Apple kept the former architecture and only added Touch ID, but wants $100 more for it. There is though a good side to this.

While the new Apple iPad Air 2 gets praised offering stunning performance in a new thinner design, the iPad mini 3 is a disappointment. The new iPad mini 3 ships now at starting price of $399. Apple has renamed last year’s iPad mini with Retina Display to iPad mini 2. The only differences of the new iPad mini 3 compared to the iPad mini 2 is Touch ID, Apple Pay and gold color option. Note that the new iPads do not support Apple Pay in stores, only in apps.

Apple for some reason did not give the new iPad mini 3 a performance upgrade and also no thinner design. To pay $100 for the convenience of Touch ID is rather rather daring from Apple. I recommend to get the iPad mini 2 starting at $299. I also already predicted in an earlier report that the Black Friday 2014 iPad deals will be amazing. Especially the older models will see huge discounts or big gift card bundle deals.

In the end the biggest thing about iPad mini 3 is that it drives down the prices of the previous two iPad mini generation. Which is awesome for consumers. So take Apple’s present of the $100 discount on the iPad mini 2 and wait for the iPad mini 4 to get a performance and design upgrade.
