The Rachel Nichols Show was among several others that were cancelled at the eleventh hour by CNN.
Recently, CNN decided to scrap four of its shows. They included: Crossfire, Unguarded (featuring Rachel Nichols), Sanjay Gupta MD and CNN Money. The last one had Christine Romans as its host.
The internal politics of the network is such that the execs have decided to annul its entertainment sections in New York and Los Angeles respectively. Jane Villez-Mitchell will be one of those leaving the organization for greener pastures.
As for Crossfire, its foursome, Newt Gingrich, S.E. Cupp, Van Jones and Stephanie Cutter will carry on with their work on board the cable television firm.
As for Rachel Nichols, she will be staying with the company too. But she will deal in sports in-depth interviews and other stuff. Rachel is also currently working for Turner Sports and covers the NBA playoffs.
Gupta too is going to stay put but the format of his medical show will get changed for better or for worse. Finally, Romans will serve as co-anchor of Early Start.
It still remains a mystery though exactly how many of its staff members CNN downsized in the latest overhaul. Nichols’ show was not very popular and its ratings were going down day by day.
She entered the conglomerate a year ago. Such huge sports personalities as LeBron James and Tiger Woods were interviewed by her. Yet her program didn’t fly with the audiences who found nothing that was particularly interesting in the drivel that went on and on.
As for Gupta, he came in the fold of CNN around the turn of the millennium. He has gone into such topics as the Japanese tidal wave that caused so much damage and the Haiti disaster. Awhile back he also reported on the Ebola virus that is rampant in Africa.
Nearly 2000 employees will get laid off in what is CNN’s biggest attempt at lean thinking. And the golden handshakes of sorts will run like a steamroller through the organization’s structure leading to a 10% cut in the numbers of the rank and file.
