Acclaimed actress, Reese Witherspoon hosted the SNL show this time around. And the entire cast went through apology after apology on the occasion of Mother’s Day to their individual moms.
Reese Witherspoon appeared on SNL and said that she felt sorry for her mom on the occasion of Mother’s Day. The way her mother had to handle a brat like Reese from the age of five till 36 years of age, was something no one ought to go through. She said that she wanted to apologize to her mommy dearest and so would all the other cast members of SNL.
One by one the cast members of SNL came up on alternate sides of Reese with their mothers in tow. They apologized to their moms for all the nasty things they did as children when they didn’t have a proper sense of their individual responsibility.
Some of the scenes of regret at wrongdoing and redemption in the form of unconditional motherly love were serious while others were hilarious. A few were tearful too. But they all had one thing in common. And that was that they ended with a sincere sorry from the child who was now a grownup and a graceful acceptance from the mother.
A shocking incident occurred when Jay Pharoah said that he had thrown the basil sandwiches his mother used to make for him to take to school in the trash can. His mama was flabbergasted and he said his “sorry’s” and hurriedly led her off the stage.
There was much laughter from the audience. Kyle Mooney used the slang word for urination and explained again and again to her mom that she had done that everywhere in the house.

Other apologies included within their purview the mundane where someone said that she broke a girl’s glasses while in KG and then both mother and daughter said that that girl deserved it and high-fived each other.
One was rather awkward and funny where a corpulent daughter told her mom who was smarter than her that she had been going out for sexual foreplay when she took her car on errands as a teenager. The mom responded matter-of-factly thereby trumping the daughter’s shocker.
Finally, Reese too revealed a whole lot more than was meant to be divulged to her mom and apologized to her in the end. It was indeed a touching series of moments of expressing one’s gratitude to the most important person in your life.
Our mothers are our first and last real love interest during our existence on earth. And we owe them everything for their limitless affection and patience.
