Robert de Niro Opens First Nobu Hotel in Asia

Attended by Chef Nobu, Robert de Niro and other VIP personalities, Nobu got its grand opening at the City of Dreams Manila.

Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is already a renowned name in the culinary world. His culinary empire spans through 36 restaurants, in 31 cities and five continents. The Nobu Restaurant, designed by Chef Nobu and helmed by Nobu Executive Chef Zachary Hillberry features Chef Nobu’s internationally acclaimed specialties, including spectacular Nobu-style sushi and black cod with miso, together with locally sourced dishes created by the hotel’s experienced culinary team.  

It was time to take the next step and Nobu along with Robert de Niro and Hollywood producer Meir Teper, Chef Nobu inaugurated the first of the luxury Nobu Hotel in the Philippines capital Manila.

The ribbon was cut by the three main men accompanied by Australian billionaire James Packer and Macau tycoon Lawrence Ho, co-chairmen of the complex operator Melco Crown Entertainment. The event was a star studded event. It was an official Nobu Purple carpet welcome attended by celebrities and Manila’s VIP. 

The Purple carpet was followed by a great traditional sake-barrel cracking ceremony. After that the guests were treated to a glamorous celebratory gala dinner hosted by Mr. Lawrence Ho and Mr. James Packer with a surprise solo performance by international superstar Apl de Ap, best known as a member of the Grammy Award-winning group The Black Eyed Peas.

The menu was Nobu inspired and was specially designed by hotel’s executive Chef Zackary Hillberry, Hotel General Manager Marlon Hirsh and Restaurant Manager Casper Khamphouy.

The 321-room hotel within the bayside casino and entertainment City of Dreams complex opened Monday to the beat of traditional drums and shower of gold and silver confetti.
