Seer; the reality helmet which claims to make you feel like Iron Man

The new low-tech augmented reality helmet uses your smartphone and overlays a heads-up display on to a plastic visor

The concept of virtual reality has been there since quite a long time now but the recent developments have surely taken the technology to completely different and next levels which couldn’t have been imagined earlier on. The best thing is that headsets built on virtual reality concepts have started to flow into the mainstream and the possibility of commercial use has been put forth. A new augmented reality headset which is going to launch later this year is going to make you feel Tony Stark in his IronMan suit. What else on this planet promises to give you the taste of such an experiment? None.

Introducing Seer – new low-tech augmented reality helmet which makes use of your smartphone along with a series of mirrors in order to overlay a heads-up display on to a plastic visor which is going to sit on the face. While on the head, it looks something right out from a sci-fi movie or a BAE Systems fighter pilot helmet.

There is a slot right up there on the headgear which is for your smartphone, which can be up to 6 inches in size. So once you have your phone in that slot, the clever optics will get to work and information will be displayed onto the visor. Dedicated apps, for which there will be an SDK, is going to let developers create interactive apps that overlay information on the screen that seamlessly adapts as you move around.

There is still some time till we can see this come to reality because so far it’s only a project at kickstarter and is looking for funding. Out of its targeted goal of $100,000, it has managed to raise $31,177 and there are still 38 days to go.
