Solar Impulse 2 Lands in Japan due to Bad Weather

Solar impulse 2 makes emergency stop in Nagoya, Japan due to critical weather conditions.

Solar impulse 2 is the solar powered Swiss plane which has promised to travel the globe without a single drop of fossil fuel. However Solar Impulse 2 was forced to make an unexpected stop in its recent journey due to bad weather conditions.

Solar Impulse 2 was flying from Nanjing, China to Hawaii and it was the longest stretch the plane was going to cover for the first time. On Sunday Solar Impulse 2 took off from Nanjing, however on Monday the official website and Twitter of Solar Impulse 2 announced the plane will be making an emergency stop in Nagoya, Japan.

According to the Twitter feed of the Solar Impulse mission team, the weather towards Hawaii has deteriorated and Solar Impulse 2 will have to make a temporary stop in Nagoya until the weather stabilizes. Solar Impulse 2 is flown by two pilots who take turns to fly the plane around the world.

Bernard Piccard, the co-pilot currently off the controls, described the emergency landing on Monday as a ‘Strange Moment’ of his life as it was a mix between elation and disappointment.

While the other pilot André Borschberg who landed the plane in Nagoya, Japan stated the weather was too dangerous for his crew to continue the journey but so far the flight and the experience on the plane has been extremely positive. 

Solar impulse 2 started its journey from Abu Dhabi in March 2015 and has so far stopped in four places that as Oman, India, Myan/3/and China. The flight from China to Hawaii is the longest and most dangerous rote to be taken by the Solar Impulse 2 consisting of 5,079-miles.

Solar impulse 2 is scheduled to complete 12 flights and the journey to Hawaii will be the 7th flight in the list. After landing in Hawaii Solar Impulse 2 will then make its way to Arizona.
