Star Trek star Arlene Martel dies aged 78 after suffering heart attack



This month we have lost some of our most valued actors and it is with a heavy heart that we announce that Arlene Martel, who played the role of Spock‘s bride-to-be in Star Trek, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78. The cause of her death was the complications from a heart attack and she took her last breaths in a hospital in Santa Monica, California. Her son Jod Kaftan revealed these details in the article The Hollywood Reporter.

We remember Arlene Martel in Star Trek as the Vulcan priestess T’Pring who was engaged to Spock (Leonard Nimoy) in the first episode of the show’s second season in 1967. In this particular episode, which was titles as Amok Time, Spock was supposed to return to his home planet of Vulcan where he must ‘mate or die’. T’Ping, the character played by Martel was engaged to Spock since childhood and the marriage heavily depends on the fight between Spock and Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner. Martel was remembered by 83 year old Nimoy via Twitter as he wrote ‘Saying goodbye to T’Pring, Arlene Martel. A lovely talent.’

Martel was also known as The Chameleon ethnic ambiguity and was given the title in the 1960s and was known popularly from this nickname throughout the directors of Hollywood. She first began her acting career in 1959 and accepted guest roles on Perry Mason, Twilight Zone, Death Valley Days and Have Gun – Will Travel.
