Intel made several announcements at the Computex 2015 in Taipei today including details about Thunderbolt 3.
Intel announced several new products and initiatives at the Computex 2015 today. The new 5th generation Intel Core CPU (Broadwell-H) for mobile and desktop are now official. The biggest news are though the details Intel revealed about Thunderbolt 3.
Thunderbolt 3 brings Thunderbolt to USB-C at speeds up to 40 Gbps, creating one compact port that does it all – delivering the fastest, most versatile connection to any dock, display, or data device.
For the first time, one computer port connects to Thunderbolt devices, every display, and billions of USB devices. A single cable now provides four times the data and twice the video bandwidth of any other cable, while also supplying power. It’s unrivaled for new uses, such as 4K video, single-cable docks with charging, external graphics, and built-in 10 GbE networking. Simply put, Thunderbolt 3 delivers the best USB-C.
We will finally only need one cable connecting most of the peripherals to our computers in 2016. USB-C connectors are reversible and already a big step forward from the normal USB connectors. The connectors of USB and Thunderbolt are the same, but Thunderbolt speeds of 40Gbps can only be achieved with special Thunderbolt cables. These cables have USB-C plugs, but integrated electronics standard USB-C cables do not have.
