Verizon Communication is coming up with a new business plan and this time around they are offering their customers custom pay TV.

So Verizon is starting a new custom pay TV program in which their customers will be able to choose the channels they want to see. So consumers will be able to choose the channels for every month.

Verizon is hoping that this new strategy will lure more customers towards the company. They believe that consumers want to feel in control and they are giving this control to them so that they can pay for what they actually see.

Verizon is moving slowly towards the ‘a la carte’ programming which means that the consumers will be able to build their own pay TV service, channel by channel. US TV networks have always been scared of introducing this ’a la carte’ programming because they believe that the consumers might drop the more popular channels.

The new custom TV packages will start from $65 a month for broadband service. The consumers will get 36 fixed basic channels and two genre-based channel packs. This will include sports bundle or kids channels.

And if you want to add extra packs then you will need to cough up an extra $10. Or you can unsubscribe or swap any pack after 30 days. In total Verizon has seven channel packs. Verizon wants to target people who are looking for something in between fully loaded cable and satellite TV packages.

The president of Verizon’s national operations Tami Erwin told Reuters that a lot of people are getting into the video space and they are saying that they want to pay for what they see. And many analysts believe that Custom TV might even help Verizon in beating competition like other cable rivals.

Chris Young who is an analyst at SNL Kagan believes that Verizon is trying to give customers some customization and the greater amount of flexibility might stop some customer from cutting the cord. But at the end of the day this will all be to fend off rival cable competition.
