Bob Hastings Dies

Bob Hastings was famous for playing the role of Lieutenant Elroy Carpenter in the 60s TV comedy show “McHale’s Navy.” The veteran Hollywood actor died at the age of 89 at his home in Burbank, California.

He was suffering from prostate cancer. He died on Monday, June 30th. His granddaughter, Allison Knowles announced his death yesterday.

Bob Hastings was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1925. He started his TV career in the 1950s. And he worked in the 1950s TV comedy “The Phil Silvers Show.”

Before playing the famous role of Lt. Elroy Carpenter, Bob Hastings also played small roles in other programs. However, his 1960s sitcom “McHale’s Navy” was his most popular TV show.

Hastings also worked on NBC radio from 1945 to 1953. He voiced Archie Comics character Archie Andrews.

His other TV credits include: Dennis the Menace, The Munsters, Green Acres, All in the Family, The Dukes of Hazzard, The Greatest American Hero, Murder She Wrote and Remington Steele.

Recently he voiced Commissioner James Gordon in Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures. He also provided his voice for some video games, including Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman and Mafia II.
