She was barely 32 years old, an age when most people actually start living life and get in touch with the pleasures and tastes of life. But, tragically Diem Brown is no longer amongst us. She has departed for the afterlife after a protracted bout of cancer. Diem became famous on MTV Real World/Road Rules Challenge.

Her laying the foundation of MedGift, a care program for those suffering from similar maladies, was an object lesson in courage. She however leaves behind a bigger legacy than just a support organization.
Diem has said that her wrestling it out with cancer was a worthwhile goal and it proved that she had the human element of strength and spirit. Her final failure matters not since it is the effort that counts. This sense of having fought tooth and nail against a horrible disease is what inspires so many who look up to Diem as a symbol of grace under pressure.
Just the previous month, Diem wrote in her blog that the cancer that had started in her stomach and colon had metastasized to her liver and lymph nodes. She admitted that it came as somwhat of a shock and she was depressed by the bad news. Her heart sank and for awhile she was left speechless and in a melancholy state.
Her near and dear ones came to be by her side in her pain and anguish as her condition grew worse due to the spreading cancer. But she never lost hope in her heart for she had the spirit of a survivor and was one tough cookie. She remained optimistic till her last sigh before giving up the ghost.
It was her personal belief that you have to literally break the bone and suck the marrow out of life. You cannot exist in a vegetative and passive manner and ought to take the bull by the horns and thrive in life with the concomitant drive. Life was all about zest and joy.
Among Diem’s dreams was marrying a guy one day and raising a family. She wanted to have a happy domestic life with the rich husband and dream house with a white fence outside it. This brave woman wanted to become a mother one day too. At least these were some of her long term goals.
She had contracted ovarian cancer at the young age of 23. Later on she relapsed into the disease state about two years back. Yet she remained on top as far as healthy thinking and sheer willpower were concerned. Diem declared that she had resisted cancer once and she would kick it out of her life once again.
She was very definitive and categorical about her decision to face the fact rather than hide behind excuses. And once again she beat it. Now her optimism was at an all time high. She felt like a million dollars. Yet just awhile back she began having stomach pains and doubled over.
When the doctors took a look at her they declared that the cancer had yet again returned and this time it posed a serious problem. She had two surgical procedures done but to no avail. And as if this was not depressing enough she had to have her womb surgically removed which was very sad since the very question of motherhood was now an impossibility.
According to People, she now faced the terror of the unknown as her future looked bleak. But she still continued to fight the blues. The only difference was that she took each day normally as it came instead thinking of the future.
Especially her starting of a blog was a helpful tool in coping with the devastating effects of the illness. It also helped build a community of individuals who shared common problems and who thus lent each other an ear and served as a series of shoulders for each other to cry on.
According to UsWeekly, her best friends and costars all left inspirational messages on Twitter and some of them ranged from shock to sadness to tears of grief upon her untimely death. She was a fighter alright and she chose to rage against the dying light till the very end of her being.
