The increase in downloads didnt bring much revenue increase for Google as compared to Apple
Google Play Store boasts more downloads than the Apple App Store
AppAnnie deals with the mobile application statistics aggregation and it has recently published a report showing the status of the Android and iOS apps. The report basically talks about how these apps had been doing comparatively in the second quarter of this year and as it turns out, both the segments’ apps did quite well in this quarter. Both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store did great, ending up with better results as compared to their previous Q1 results of 60% and 45%, respectively.
This means that the Google Play Store ended up with 50% more downloads compared to the iOS App Store but the results are a little confusing because Google still couldn’t manage more revenue. In that department, Apple continues to take the lead. Though the downloads increased for Google, the revenue stayed far far behind and the App Store brought 80% more revenue for Apple than the Play Store did for Google. The revenue for Apple has increased by 45% as compared to the previous quarter and if Google is to be compared with its Q1, then it also saw an increase of 30%.
The countries to have downloaded the most apps from the Play Store include Untied States, Brazil and India. While India has surged jumping two places up compared to Q1, the US hasn’t brought much revenue for the Play Store. Japan remains to be the top market where these Android apps are downloaded the most.
