It’s a bit of an odd couple but then the two also have great chemistry on set. Hilary Swank, famous for her role as an aspiring boxer in Million Dollar Baby, plays a frontier woman who protects Tommy Lee Jones from certain death in The Homesman

According to E! News, The Homesman has “a pioneer woman (Swank) comes across a man who is ready to be hanged to death (Jones) but decides to help him out.”

After she has done him this rather large favor she expects him to escort her and three mentally unfit women in a dangerous journey across the United States. Along the way Tommy Lee must face the twin perils of warring Indians and murderous bandits.

He fights them with every ounce of strength he has at his disposal. Hilary plays a rough and tough outdoor type that saves Tommy from imminent death courtesy of the hangman’s noose. Yet there is a price to pay for this lifesaving act.

The perilous trip the two take from Nebraska to Iowa is not an easy one. It has all sorts of hazardous traps set in the form of stray and criminal elements that threaten life and limb.

Among some of the other actors and actresses besides Hilary and Tommy that figure in the ensemble are: Meryl Streep, William Fichtner, Hailee Steinfeld and Jesse Plemens. The fourth one among these has also appeared previously in the famous series Breaking Bad. No release date is yet announced for “The Homesman.” You can watch the trailer below.

Meanwhile, besides this movie project, in which Hilary has acted with such decisiveness, she was honored by the Petco Foundation. This is an organization that cares deeply for animals and pets. Hilary was the chief guest at their recent function celebrating humane behavior to animals.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as an advocate for animals by such a respected organization as the Petco Foundation,” said Ms. Swank. “They work tirelessly every single day on behalf of animals and have such a far-reaching impact through their extraordinary efforts. This Hope Award is a reminder that we all need to individually come together in order to collectively bring hope and make a difference for animals, animal welfare and animal rights. For even one person’s vision and efforts today can have a lasting impact that will make a difference in the lives of these souls for many tomorrows.”

Hilary Swank has always supported animal rights and is a great animal lover like Pamela Anderson, Jenny Seagrove and Brigitte Bardot. Her abilities as an actress are therefore complemented by her real life activities as a very caring individual that extends the same rights as human beings to other species as well.

“It’s always a joy to celebrate the great work being done in animal-welfare by our friends and partners all over the country, particularly our Hope Award recipients,” said Susanne Kogut, Executive Director of the Petco Foundation. “We’re big fans of Hilary’s, not only for her incredible acting talent, but we’re also inspired and impressed by her passion for animal rescue and her determination to make a real difference.”
