Nathan Lane is Hilarious and worth every Horse Laugh!

Nathan Lane appears in It’s only a Play. And he is charming as a comedian. The man starts the staccato rhythm of one-liners and wiseacre jokes that simply rip the audience in two.

The belly laughs and guffaws that follow make for quite a response to the show. And the perfect foil to Nathan’s ribald jokes is a simple man named Micah Stock who doesn’t respond to any of the laughable material.

The result is that Lane’s antics become ever more contrived and difficult as he tries to bend over backwards in an effort to get Micah to somehow react to the comic relief. After about a quarter of an hour, Stockard Channing enters the scene.

She is a junkie and film failure. She plays her role to a T. Next it is the turn of Rupert Grint of Harry Potter fame to make his entry. His actions are even more bizarre and totally haywire.

Megan Mullally, a production expert with nothing in the way of any talent materializes some time afterwards. However, these flaws are covered up by a filthy rich hubby and a vicious dog she owns.

Directed by Jack O’Brien, this show is quite a merry source of entertainment. Over 90% of the jokes deliver and end up causing the viewership to go into hysterics.

Finally, Matthew Broderick walks straight into the maelstrom. He is the only one whose performance falls flat on its face. There have been several other attempts at similar fare but this one takes the prize hands down.

It’s only a Play will probably garner huge audiences and lead to complete stress relief for the viewership via a catharsis of sorts. Such non-serious stuff in this over-serious and stuffy age of ours is an oasis and haven.

It ought not to be taken for granted. In a world gone wrong, it’s hard to think right and a solid dose of comedy does one a whole lot of good.
