Roger Federer Defeats Murray to Qualify for London Semi-Finals
Roger Federer has finally booked a slot in the London semi-finals. This is after he defeated Andy Murray at the World Tour Finals last Thursday. According to Albawaba, Federer scored 6-0 and 6-1.
Federer stated he was thrilled for having given the tournament his best shot. The Swiss argued that he was aware he would be the one to carry the day even before he stepped into the court.
“I’m clearly very happy to play a good match tonight,” said Federer, who eliminated Murray from weekend contention by winning the opening set. “I knew I had qualified before the match, but I’ve been in that position before.
“The match didn’t go the way I thought it was going to go, but I wish Andy a good next season.
“For me, it would be pretty special to try for another title here. I’m very happy about the performance.”
Federer is in the same group with Japan’s Kei Nishikori. Kei is absolutely the best player in Asia. As a matter of fact, he will be remembered for being the first Asian player to clash with Federer.
The six times champion achieved 6-0 ahead of Murray after having clashed with him in 61 sets. At the moment Federer has earned 11 from a total of 12 paticipation. Federer has so far won 71 matches this season. Besides that, Thursday’s win was a walk in the park for the Swiss because Murray was quite demoralized due to the fact that he was defeated in their previous encounters.
In another tournament, Milos Raonic could not continue playing against Nishikori after suffering a torn thigh muscle. Since the match had to go on, Ferrer was brought in to fill the gap. However, the Japanese was moved by the change because he was up to the game.
“I was surprised little bit because I didn’t know he was injured. I wasn’t expecting David coming, but we played a lot of times.
“Even if they changed one hour before, I was ready to play anybody. I’m very happy to win today,” Nikishori said.
During the match, Federer remained outside the box while Murray did not leave the box. Murray seemed to be frustrated by making fruitless efforts.
Since Federer has finished the last four, he now has to prepare for another tournament that will be played towards the end of the year.
