Scotland Vote is not in favor of Independence

The vote that was cast in the referendum for the independence of Scotland from the UK turned out to be not in favor of the act.

A referendum got held to finally once and for all settle the question of Scotland’s independence from England. And the results spoke for themselves. A 55% swing vote proved that the majority of Scots wanted to stay connected with England and Wales. 

The more than 300 year old history of the nation as a part of the UK will remain extant thanks to the dictum that majority is authority. As for the Scottish National Party, it has been given a thrashing the like of which it has seldom seen. 

After a resounding defeat, it seems to have retreated from prominence. Over 30 of the localities of Scotland, which included Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, turned out to have won in the final analysis.

Among those who voted Yes /4/be included such areas as: Glasgow which won 53%, West Dunbartonshire with 54%, Dundee with 57% and North Lanarkshire with 51%. As for those who voted No, they too were numerous and even reached areas where the Yes campaigners could have otherwise conquered. 

The British Prime Minister, David Cameron, wrote on Twitter that he had congratulated Alistair Darling on the winning the right to the union which was a moral victory of sorts.

Alex Salmond, who opposed the union, said in a speech that he accepted the decision willy-nilly since it was how the game of politics was played fair and square. 

The referendum was a sign that all was well as far as Scots and Brits were concerned. They were indeed brothers-in-arms. Yet the fact that the vote had been cast means that the times were changing. 

All of Scotland expects devolutionary powers to accrue to it since that is the cry of the time. The separatist cause remains a simmering and dangerous undercurrent and the only way to check it is to give the necessary freedom to those seeking their basic constitutional rights. It is that simple.
