Sonakshi Sinha says personal digs are not okay

Sonakshi Sinha’s weight has been quite controversial on the Indian cinema platform and we frequently see her on the news because of her weight issues; even more than because of her films. The actress has been silent on the matter since a very long time and things weren’t taking a toll in this regard for her up till the last week when she posted a picture of a skeleton on a photo-sharing website, lashing out at those who ridiculed her for her voluptuous figure.

Sonakshi thinks that it is not fair on everyone’s part to expect the actors and actresses to appear in a certain manner and it is certainly not fair to judge everyone based on the stereotypes. This is however difficult to idealize in real since we are talking of an industry where the success of every actor is based on the way they look.

When she was acquired about why she remained silent on these comments for so long, she said, “There always comes a point where enough is enough. This was that point. People take too much liberty behind the mask of anonymity on social media, and certain people use journalism as a medium to say whatever they want, when they don’t even have the right. Critiquing is okay. But personal digs are not okay. Why should anyone tell me or anyone else, how we are supposed to look, and what size we are supposed to be?”

The 27 year old actress says that the decision to lose weight was entirely her own and not because she was feeling under pressure from all the comments on her weight. “I work towards being fit, not towards being size zero. I am very happy being a healthy size 10. And so is my audience; my success attests that. But certain people are so narrow-minded, petty, shallow and accustomed to herd mentality that they will say anything for the sake of it,” she says.

She is right about thinking that these personal digs coming from her weight are only about the mindset issues which need to change as soon as possible. She explains this phenomenon in more detail as she says “I will always stand by the fact that being overweight is not good for you, and I can say this because I’ve been on that side of the fence… but I feel that neither is being underweight. There is a certain level of fitness that everyone should maintain, and it should always be done in a healthy way. People come in all shapes and sizes; no one should be forced to fit into a mould.”
