The iPhone 6 scores 21,204 points, which is just marginally better than the score of its predecessor.
iPhone 6 A8 GPU benchmark suggests it’s behind the curve
The first ever benchmark results for the iPhone 6 have already been released and they are from the GPU testing Basemark X suite. The freshly released Apple iPhone has managed to get a score of 21,204 and looks like Apple has managed to achieve what it wanted to since the score is better than that of the predecessor iPhone 5s which hit the score of 20,253.
It is pretty obvious why the phone was able to achieve this score and we were all expecting this enhancement since the iPhone 6 is equipped with Apple’s latest A8 chip with a dual-core 1.4GHz Cyclone CPU and a so-far unknown GPU. According to what the rumors have brought towards us so far, the graphics unit in the A8 is the PowerVR GX6650 which is the next generation of whatever has been featured on the iPhone 5s (PowerVR G6430).
We can also make an educated guess based on the score we got from the Basemark X suite and assume that the fruit company has instead used the hexa-core PowerVR G6630 because the performance seen from the scores isn’t exactly ‘groundbreaking’.
