ViewSonic V55 Smartphone With Iris Scanner Could Launch at CES 2015

A video on Youtube shows how the scanner will work on the smartphone

It was highly rumored that 2014 would bring us the smartphones with Iris technology and the feature remained quite popular throughout the year making it to the headlines every now and then but they never came to the smartphones. It was also expected to be seen on the Samsung Galaxy handset but that never happened either. However, we have high hopes with the new year and the jinx of the Iris technology has finally been broken as we are expecting to see the first smartphone which will feature the Iris scanning and recognition technology.

This new smartphone is being launched by ViewSonic, a company which usually associates itself with displays, sometime in January. The company is known to display its products each year at the CES and this is why we are quite positive that we will see what the smartphone looks like. A report by Gizmochina has detailed some functions and features of the ViewSonic V55 smartphone along with a few images. They have also posted a video on Youtube titled as “ViewSonic V55 teaser with Iris recognition technology” and the video shows how the feature is going to work on the smartphone.

The report says that “With this technology, only the owner of the device, whose iris patterns are recorded pre-recorded can unlock and access information from the smartphone.” It is being said that the Iris scanner will be located on the top right corner of the handset and will be covered with a small piece so in order to use the scanner users will have to slide the cover off.
