The much-rumored Xiaomi Mi5 smartphone could boast a high-end sapphire display when it launches next year

After getting tons of leaks on the Xiaomi Mi5 smartphone, we have a new report which says that the device is going to sport a high-end sapphire display when it launches next year. The sapphire displays have started to get a little common but they haven’t yet fallen into the mainstream. The rumors that had been revolving around the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus had also suggested that they would feature a sapphire glass display but that didn’t happen as we know. Apple apparently dropped the idea of these displays because of the low yield rates in producing such panels.

Kyocera, however, still launched a smartphone with a sapphire glass display and Xiaomi could become one other company to beat Apple at something if this report is true. The new report from DigiTimes states that the company has plans to launch its new smartphone with a sapphire display but unlike Kyocera’s offering, the Xiaomi Mi5 is going to be a high end offering and the target market is those who are looking for both power as well as immense luxury.

The report also says that we should keep our fingers crossed for the CES 2015 since it is very likely that the device will be unveiled, with a high probability that it boats a 5.7-inch sapphire display.

“China-based smartphone vendor Xiaomi Technology is likely to adopt sapphire for protective covers of Xiaomi 5, its 5.7-inch flagship model that will be showcased at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show, Taiwan-based supply chain makers cited industry sources in China as indicating,” as the report says.

On the inside, the Xiaomi Mi5 is certainly going to be heavy built and is expected to sport a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It will run on 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and will have 3 GB of Ram under the hood.
