Google Says Buy Button is Coming Soon to Mobile Search Results

It is finally confirmed. Google is adding a “Shop on Google” button on mobile search results.

Google has confirmed that is will launch a buy button on mobile search results. Speaking at the Code Conference on Wednesday, Google’s Chief Business Officer, Omid Kordestani, said that a buy button will eliminate friction between customers and advertisers by speeding up the process. 

Word about Google’s plan to add a buy button was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. “There’s going to be a buy button. It’s going to be imminent,” Kordestani said on Wednesday. So, it’s finally coming. Soon, we’ll be able to buy stuff by simply “Googling.” Kordestani adds that more people are now using Google to make mobile searches to buy stuff.

Sources also told the Wall Street Journal that the buy button is rolling out to mobile devices only. The said buttons will appear alongside sponsored or paid search results, displaying a “Shop on Google” heading at the top of the page, sources added. Non-sponsored results will not show the button.

If a customer clicks a button, he or she will be redirected to a Google product page to make the purchase. Customers can even choose sizes, colors, shipping options, and the mode of payments. However, sources said that the products will still be sold by retailers. Google is reportedly wooing retailers to join the initiative.

It’s an interesting move by Google, which gets a huge chunk of its revenue from advertising. However, Google is facing a tough competition from Amazon and Facebook. Amazon, for example, has a nifty one-click ordering system, which speeds up the shopping process. Google will reportedly allow customers to input and save their payment credentials for future use.
